Transforming lives. Read our impact report for 2024/25

2024/25 was a year of significant growth for the Steve Browne Foundation, with more young people accessing structured sport, skills, mentoring and wellbeing support. Alongside expanding participation, the Foundation strengthened the quality of its programmes through recognised accreditation and increased its focus on creating inclusive opportunities for young people who may struggle within traditional education and support settings.

 

Key achievements included:

 

  • More than 1,500 young people engaged in structured sports and skills-development activities.
  • Participation increased by 29% year on year, extending the Foundation’s reach to more young people.
  • 73% of participants reported increased confidence and self-esteem.
  • 82% reported improved mental health, demonstrating the wider wellbeing impact of the programmes.
  • 32% of participants progressed into volunteering or mentoring roles, giving young people opportunities to develop leadership skills and support their peers.
  • Programmes achieved AQA Unit Award Scheme certification, enabling young people to gain formal recognition for the skills and development they complete.
  • The Foundation achieved Skills Builder Provider status, aligning its skills development with a recognised national framework.
  • Support for neurodiverse young people was strengthened, with participants who had previously been isolated or disengaged progressing into confident volunteering and peer-support roles.
  • A dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach was introduced, strengthening the Foundation’s ability to provide consistent emotional resilience and wellbeing support alongside education and employability work.

Throughout 2023/24, the Steve Browne Foundation continued to create opportunities for young people through sport, education, mentoring and wellbeing support. Our programmes focused on building confidence, developing practical skills and helping young people overcome barriers to education, employment and participation in their communities.

Key achievements included:

  • 1,200+ young people participating in Foundation programmes, with participation increasing by 40%.
  • 90% of participants reported increased confidence, while 85% reported improvements in their mental health and wellbeing.
  • 1,000+ hours of support delivered to young people.
  • 32% of participants progressed into higher education, employment or mentoring roles following their involvement.
  • 220 students took part in educational workshops designed to build skills and future opportunities.
  • More than 1,200 pieces of school uniform were provided free to children and families experiencing financial pressure.
  • Nine new partnerships were developed with schools, employers and community organisations, creating stronger pathways and opportunities for young people.
  • New mentoring and wellbeing support helped young people build resilience, leadership skills and a greater sense of belonging.

During a challenging period for young people and the Foundation, the Steve Browne Foundation adapted its support to ensure young people could continue to access opportunities, activities and guidance. Alongside introducing virtual support, the Foundation focused on physical and mental wellbeing, confidence, life skills and creating pathways towards future education and employment.

Key achievements included:

  • Adapted delivery during the disruption of 2021, introducing virtual sessions so young people could continue to receive support.
  • Listened directly to young people through focus groups, using their experiences and views to shape activities and support.
  • Delivered holiday activity schemes, school transition weeks and sports community days, supporting wellbeing, connection and positive participation.
  • Established young people’s committees, giving participants opportunities to plan activities, work collaboratively and build confidence in delivering projects.
  • Delivered basic financial skills workshops, helping young people develop greater confidence in managing money.
  • Worked with corporate organisations to create work experience, reciprocal mentoring and career opportunities for young people.
  • Provided practical community support through initiatives including a Christmas toy drive.
